When this homeowner came back from vacation, he was greeted with a flooded crawlspace that had already began showing signs of mold growth.
Severe termite damage to the wooden floor joists in the crawl space compromised their ability to provide adequate support.
The crawlspace of this home had suffered from movement, wear and tear over the years. To get the foundation stabilized and the floors re-leveled, LRE installed house jacks, also known as SmartJacks.
A significant sign of foundation issues for the homeowner was the appearance of cracks in the interior walls of the home.
Upon inspecting the crawl space below the home, the Design Specialist found many of the original block piers settling into the soil below, creating a lack of sufficient support for the floor joists above.
The Design Specialist's inspection revealed areas in the crawl space with inadequate support for the home's floor joists.
Upon inspection by the LRE Design Specialist, it was discovered that the homeowner's crawl space lacked a proper system to regulate and prevent moisture accumulation, leading to a very damp environment prone to mold development.
Crawl spaces in Florida homes were frequently constructed without sufficient structural support, resulting in the gradual sagging of wooden floor joists over time.
