With the weight of recent renovations inside the home and the settling of the soil underneath, the block piers in the crawl space began sinking into the ground, causing the floors above to sag. Additionally, makeshift piers made of wood and cinder blocks were found to have been installed previously to provide additional, yet insufficient, support.
During the crawl space inspection, the LRE Design Specialist discovered a very damp environment without an effective moisture control system. This is a common issue in homes with crawl spaces, as inadequate moisture management can lead to potential damage and mold growth. Addressing this concern is crucial to maintaining a healthy and stable home environment.
This crawlspace suffered from shifting soils and moisture intrusion that compromised the support beams and added to the settlement of the interior floors.
The original block piers in the crawl space, which had been supporting the home's floor joists, had deteriorated, resulting in sagging and instability in the floor joists.
The original state of the crawl space showed a lack of sufficient support for the floor joists above, causing the floors in the home to slope.
An inspection by the LRE Design Specialist revealed a lack of support for the wooden floor joists above, causing them to sag.
An inspection by an LRE Design Specialist revealed that the crawl space beneath the home lacked an effective system to prevent moisture damage.
The Design Specialist thoroughly examined the crawl space and identified areas where the wooden support joists above were sagging due to lack of adequate support.
