In order to control moisture from the cove joint of the wall and the floor at the perimeter of the basement, we broke out the concrete floor, and drilled weep holes into the cinderblock. This will drain the wall at the cove joint so we can control where the water enters the home. We then installed drainage stone and the WaterGuard system to the trench, and concreted over the system. The SuperSump pump was plumbed to the back corner of the home and discharged to the outside, through an Iceguard and a buried drain tile 12 feet away from the house by the fence, terminating in a drywell box...
The WaterGuard solution is designed to control perimeter water from the cove joint and redirect that water to a sump pit. We broke out the perimeter of this Peru, Indiana basement to install our dewatering system, WaterGuard. From there, we channeled the water into a SuperSump pump, and discharged that through an Underground Extension away from the foundation.
To remedy the standing water in this crawlspace we laid Drain Tile along the perimeter to channel water to a SuperSump pump. We discharged the water out an Underground Extension. We then laid a CleanSpace vapor barrier over the tile to trap vapors from the ground, and after installing an Aprilaire Dehumidifier, we solved the issues with the musty smells.
This wonderful transformation began by setting an UltraSump pump into the floor, then we added Flangeless WaterGuard to guide any water into that sump. Lastly we applied EmeShield to flash water directly into our WaterGuard. What a transformation!
We installed a full perimeter WaterGuard system on all exterior walls. The concrete floor was removed roughly 10 to 12 inches from the foundation wall, allowing for the WaterGuard subfloor system to be installed including filter cloth and a bed of stone. The concrete floor was put back together after the system was installed and drained into the sump pumps. In order to combat the musty smells and high moisture levels, we sealed off all vents on interior of crawlspace with 2 inch foam. To neutralize any mold that was forming, we sprayed Mold-X on all floor joists and the subfloor. We then installed a SuperSump basin with a Zoeller M53. After installing 124 feet of 4 inch drain tile around perimeter, we tied it into the SuperSump. To trap the vapors off from the space we Encapsulated all of the exterior walls and the floor. Moisture can be the most common problem in a vented, unsealed crawl space. Humidity and excess moisture leads to mold growth, wood rot, and pest infestations. Crawl space moisture often contributes to structural damage, musty odors, and high energy bills.
