An extraction point was created in the foundation floor of the basement to allow access for radon to be removed from the soil. PVC pipe was then fit to the extraction point and configured to the outside of the home.
Before we started work on the project, the crawl space was damp and musty. This caused the insulation to absorb moisture and fall, ultimately leaving the home vulnerable to energy inefficiency and cold floors. Excessive moisture can also subject the crawl space to mold growth, wood rot, and musty odors throughout the home.
The previous sump pump installed in the basement of the home stopped working. This left the basement prone to basement floods. At one point, the basement filled with 4' of water.
Homeowners often try to seal basement cracks to prevent water infiltration. While these temporary solutions may stop leaks momentarily, the cracks tend to widen over time because the underlying foundation issues are not addressed.
The previous homeowners attempted to solve water ingress with short term solutions that didn't fully address the issue. This led to mold growth and ugly staining along the foundation floor.
Despite already having a sump pump installed, water seepage through the home's foundation still occurred. In order to protect the basement for when the space is finished, these homeowners needed a reliable sump pump that they knew would keep the basement dry at all times.
Consistent basement flooding left the basement susceptible to high levels of humidity, resulting in mold and musty odors. This, paired with the damage done to the finished space, led the homeowner to look for a permanent waterproofing solution.
The sump pump previously installed in the home was unable to capture water to keep the basement dry. The lack of a sump cover also invited excessive moisture into the basement, potentially causing mold if left unaddressed. This also allowed debris to fall in and clog the system.
