This is important because that mud can easily clog waterproofing systems and cause them to fail. Since it is above the reach of the mud, WaterGuard™ won't clog. 

Once WaterGuard™ is installed, the trench that is dug for it is refillied and re-covered. Then the floor can be replaced safely over top.
