Wet basements are pretty common in Philpot and many cities in Kentucky.  With the proximity to rivers and streams, higher humidity, and an average rainfall of 45" per year, basement moisture levels are a common problem.  Increased moisture leads to mold concerns and problems with effloresence, mildrew and fungus, and increased pest activity.  

These homeowners were determined to stop the basement flooding cycle by installing an interior basement waterproofing system through Healthy Spaces.

The Healthy Spaces installation team installed 179 linear feet of waterguard, a SuperSump sump pump system, and 15' of discharge line.  The Waterguard system is installed along the perimeter of the basement and has a special flange to catch wall moisture as well!  The water is directed through the Waterguard into the SuperSump, then removed far from the basement through the discharge line.

Ron S, from Elberfeld, IN was having 2 main problems with his basement: water and mold. As these are common problems, he knew they don't create a healthy environment to live in. Since water always finds the path of least resistance, it would intrude during rains through the cracks in the basement walls. With the water often sitting in the basement, it leads to a mold issue. The mold was growing on organic material, such as wood. Ron knew that he should call someone to come take a look before the problem got worse. 

System Design Specialist, Chris Russell, inspected Ron's basement and noticed the standing water and mold growth as well. After the inspection, they sat down and Chris provided an estimate for the work, and Ron was ready to move forward to get his basement back to health. For starters, a mold remediation treatment was done through the basement to get rid of the mold. A WaterGuard system was installed to run any intruding water straight to the new TripleSafe sump pump. The water would then run outside from the discharge lines of the sump pump. A CleanSpace vapor is a heavy, durable, plastic liner that provides a vapor barrier while also draining water behind it and dramatically brightens the basement. 

Water in the basement is never a good thing. It leads to increased moisture, mold, and an unhappy homeowner. This Owensboro, KY homeowner was feeling all of these things. She finally decided to call Healthy Spaces for a free inspection.

You can see the gray Waterguard drainage system has been placed in a trench along the entire basement perimeter. Waterguard is a unique system because it doesn't clog like traditional French drains. One of the reasons that this doesn't happen is that Waterguard sits out of the dirt beneath your foundation--it rests on the foundation footer, where it can capture both water coming in from below and water weeping in from the walls. The entire system is cemented in place to ensure a high quality finish. In fact, Waterguard is such an effective system that you can finish your basement and forget that it's there.

What's worse than a wet basement? These Owensboro, KY homeowners didn't know the answer to that either. With every rainfall, water would slowly creep into their basement. They bought fans to constantly run after storms to dry up the sitting water. They thought they fixed it themselves- once and for all, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. On top of the water problems, there was also mold growth occurring because of the water intrusion that was happening.

Chris Russel, one of our certified Design Specialists were sent out to the home to inspect the basement and let the homeowners the best solution to keep water out. A WaterGuard system was the answer. The WaterGuard spacers against the wall make a neat finished look and keep dirt and debris from the floor out of the gap, while not being seen. After the water is collected through the WaterGuard system, it is taken to the sump pump where it is pumped outside and away from the home through discharge lines.
