The Future Is Flood Free
In the past four years, this Scarborough, ME, homeowner has had to worry about basement flooding and appliances getting wet. During heavy rains, the sump pump would often fail, leading to up to two inches of water, making it unsafe for the homeowner to use the basement for storage. After calling TC Hafford Basement Systems, System Design Specialist Jordan Tarbox met with the homeowner. Following a thorough review of the basement, he worked with the homeowner to design a waterproofing system to protect the home and prevent water damage.
A total of 81 feet of WaterGuard was installed around the perimeter of the basement, with four WaterGuard Ports for easy cleaning. A TripleSafe Sump Pump System to pump the water outside of the home through a buried discharge line. IceGuard was also installed on the discharge line to prevent ice buildup, ensuring the system remains optimized, even during harsh winters.
Before The Slab Is Poured
This Scarborough, ME building has had water issues for years. With as much as two inches of standing water, this basement stayed on the wet side. After deciding that it was time to address the issue and protect the health of the building, the property owners reached out to TC Hafford Basement Systems for help. System Design Specialist Jordan Tarbox met with the owner at the property and worked with them to design a system specifically for this basement. The best course of action would be a brand-new slab with a waterproofing system.
First, to create an inorganic barrier between the new slab and the earth, Drainage Matting is laid down, preventing outside elements from touching the slab. WaterGuard is installed around the perimeter of the basement to channel any water to a TripleSafe Sump Pump that will take water out of the basement and push it through an exterior Buried Discharge Line. CleanSpace Wall System is installed and connected to the WaterGuard, ensuring no water can seep through any cracks and end up on the new slab. To prevent humidity from being an issue, a SaniDry Sedona is installed in the basement to keep humidity at a safe level.
The new slab is ready to be poured, and the basement will now be a usable space without concern of damaging any stored items, and the building is protected from water damage and mold.
Water Coming in Through Old Sump Hole
This homeowner has lived at this Scarborough, ME, property for over six years but recently developed a problem that could not go unfixed. When it rains or during snowmelting, their open sump hole would allow water to come in and cover part of their basement floor. Not willing to risk their belongings being damaged or risk mold growth due to the water in their basement, they scheduled a free estimate with TC Hafford Basement System, and System Design Specialist Nicholas Ciciarelli met with them. Together, Nick and the homeowner worked together to design a waterproofing system that would meet the needs of the basement and protect the health of the home. The old sump needed to be removed so the hole could be dug out to make room for the new TripleSafe Sump Pump with Battery Backup. Once the TripleSafe is installed, it then gets connected to an Exterior Buried Discharge line that takes the water far away from the home. To ensure the system runs year-round without the risk of ice buildup, IceGuard is installed on the Discharge line to protect the system, keeping the system running at 100%.
Protecting The Health of Your Home
Water entering your basement will not only make the space unusable but can also affect the health of your home and family. When something as important as the health of your family is at stake, it's crucial to find a company you can trust to ensure the work is done right. This Westbrook, ME, homeowner had lived in their home for three years and wanted to protect their investment and home. The homeowner made the call for help, and TC Hafford Basement Systems answered.
System Design Specialist Ron Bedard drove to the home to meet with the owners and put together a solution that would meet their needs and protect the home. WaterGuard was installed around the perimeter to catch water and channel it to a TripleSafe Sump Pump system. Once the water reaches the sump pump, it needs a place to go. The water is pushed through a buried discharge line and is released where it is no longer capable of harming the home.
Now that the system is installed, we recommend yearly service to ensure the integrity of the system and the long-term health of the home and system.
Wet Basement Gets a New Slab
This Norway, ME, home had water coming up through the floor due to an old and broken slab. The homeowner wanted to be able to use the spay without their belongings getting ruined and water damaging the health of their home. Ready to take care of the issues and regain control of their basement, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems and booked a free estimate. The homeowner worked with System Design Specialist Sam Crowley, who helped them design a waterproofing system with a new concrete slab.
First, the area needed to be waterproofed, so Drainage Matting was laid down on the floor and WaterGuard Perimeter Drain was installed along the walls where needed. Drainage Matting will create an inorganic barrier to protect the new slab, and WaterGuard will collect and channel water to the new TripleSafe Sump Pump. The TripleSafe Sump Pump features two Zoeller sumps and a battery backup to protect the basement from water in cases of heavy rain. The TripleSafe pumps the water out of the basement through a Buried Discharge line that is protected from ice buildup with IceGuard, keeping the system running all year round without issue. CleanSpace Wall System was installed on the basement walls and attached to the WaterGuard to create a barrier and collect any water that may come in.
Next, it was important to take care of some of the structural issues in the basement, so a new Supplemental Beam was installed along with a couple of SmartJacks. SmartJacks are made of galvanized steel and are capable of being adjusted over time as needed to keep the floor above stable and level. Stabilizing the floor above protects the home from long-term damage, saving the homeowner from costly repairs. With the SmartJacks and waterproofing system installed, the basement was ready for the new slab to be poured. Not only does the basement look better than before, but the homeowner is able to use the space however they please without the risk or worry of their belongings being damaged.
