WaterGuard Piping Provides Permanent Waterproofing Solution for Gorham, ME Basement

Living with a wet basement, this Gorham, ME homeowner was looking for a way to keep the water at bay. After a quick Google search, they called us at TC Hafford Basement Systems, and we set them up with a free estimate from one of our sales representatives. Liking what we could offer, they hired us right away to get started on waterproofing their wet basement. As soon as our installation crew arrived at the home, they got started on the basement by excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter of the floor. This enabled them to lay WaterGuard piping down below the surface of the floor, covering it over with a fresh layer of concrete. Concealed within the floor, the WaterGuard piping will now capture any moisture leaking in through the foundation before it can reach the floors surface. This trapped water is guided directly into the SuperSump installed in the corner of the basement to remove the water from the home before it can accumulate. The water is forced out of the home through a PVC discharge line protected by an IceGuard segment just outside the home. The IceGuard is constructed with upward facing holes to allow for any water blocked by ice or debris to escape the line before backing up into the home.

With these waterproofing measures in place, this homeowner now has the permanent solution they were looking for. The WaterGuard & SuperSump combination will ensure this basement remains water-free for years to come!

A 1930's Home Needs a Little Love

Walking into your basement and stepping in a puddle is never a good sign. This Gorham, ME homeowner purchased this 1930’s home over 5 years ago and wants to make this their forever home but were nervous about water and the condition of their foundation. Wanting to tackle the issues of the basement, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement System for a free estimate on protecting the health of their home. System Design Specialist Foster Blake met with the homeowner, and they worked together to address all concerns, including the water coming in, the foundation, and mold.

Starting from the ground up, this home needed a new slab. With the old one as cracked and broken as it was, water would come up and form puddles. Before the new slab was poured, Drainage Matting was laid, and WaterGuard Interior Basement Drain was placed around the perimeter of the basement. The WaterGuard is connected to a TripleSafe Sump Pump that takes the water and pushes it out of a discharge line, so the water will no longer be an issue. Moisture in the air is still a concern, as high humidity leads to mold growth. To combat moisture, a SaniDry Sedona was installed, maintaining optimal humidity.

The homeowner can live in their forever home without being concerned about the health of their home. It is easy to forget that if you buy a two-story home with a bad basement, then that is 1/3 of your home that cannot be utilized. The homeowner now has the ability to use their basement as they see fit and can finish it without worry.

The Future Is Flood Free

In the past four years, this Scarborough, ME, homeowner has had to worry about basement flooding and appliances getting wet. During heavy rains, the sump pump would often fail, leading to up to two inches of water, making it unsafe for the homeowner to use the basement for storage. After calling TC Hafford Basement Systems, System Design Specialist Jordan Tarbox met with the homeowner. Following a thorough review of the basement, he worked with the homeowner to design a waterproofing system to protect the home and prevent water damage.

A total of 81 feet of WaterGuard was installed around the perimeter of the basement, with four WaterGuard Ports for easy cleaning. A TripleSafe Sump Pump System to pump the water outside of the home through a buried discharge line. IceGuard was also installed on the discharge line to prevent ice buildup, ensuring the system remains optimized, even during harsh winters.

Before The Slab Is Poured

This Scarborough, ME building has had water issues for years. With as much as two inches of standing water, this basement stayed on the wet side. After deciding that it was time to address the issue and protect the health of the building, the property owners reached out to TC Hafford Basement Systems for help. System Design Specialist Jordan Tarbox met with the owner at the property and worked with them to design a system specifically for this basement. The best course of action would be a brand-new slab with a waterproofing system.

First, to create an inorganic barrier between the new slab and the earth, Drainage Matting is laid down, preventing outside elements from touching the slab. WaterGuard is installed around the perimeter of the basement to channel any water to a TripleSafe Sump Pump that will take water out of the basement and push it through an exterior Buried Discharge Line. CleanSpace Wall System is installed and connected to the WaterGuard, ensuring no water can seep through any cracks and end up on the new slab. To prevent humidity from being an issue, a SaniDry Sedona is installed in the basement to keep humidity at a safe level.

The new slab is ready to be poured, and the basement will now be a usable space without concern of damaging any stored items, and the building is protected from water damage and mold.
