New Crawl Space Access Well Installed in Port Huron, MI

Jonathon S. in Port Huron contacted HomeSpec to install a new access well for his crawl space.

There was only a makeshift wooden door on his old entrance, which allowed in pests, moisture, and debris. To fix this issue, foreman Jon Lont and his crew installed The Turtl™ entry system. This is immune to mold and pest damage, and locks securely to keep out unwanted pests and debris. The homeowner was very happy with the difference it made, too!

Failing Crawl Space Insulation & Vapor Barrier Replaced in Port Huron, MI

Shockingly, most of the air you breath in your home actually comes up from your crawl space - so if the crawl space is cold, musty and moldy - so is your home.

This Port Huron homeowner, Veteran and first responder contacted HomeSpec because his crawl space insulation and vapor barrier were old and torn up, causing moisture and cold air to enter and wreak havoc. Project Manager Ben Gabowitz found a solution to solve this issue - crawl space encapsulation

Foreman Jon Davis and his crew sealed the exposed dirt floor and block walls with a CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier. This blocks moisture and humidity from entering. Then they used the SilverGlo Rigid Foam Insulation to create an airtight seal - preventing cold air from entering and flowing into the rest of the home. Lastly, they sealed the broken vents with CleanSpace® vent covers.

Crawl Space Encapsulation Prevents Frozen Pipes in Avoca, MI

A huge problem homeowners face in the wintertime is frozen pipes - it's a headache to deal with and happens when there's not proper insulation in the crawl space to keep it warm.

That's why these Avoca, Michigan homeowners contacted HomeSpec. They were tired of dealing with frozen pipes every winter - they even had TWO heaters installed in their crawl space to mediate the situation!

Our experts knew exactly what the crawl space needed - encapsulation. This includes sealing the crawl space walls and floor off with a CleanSpace vapor barrier, and sealing the rim joists and any other gaps with the SilverGlo insulation to prevent air and moisture leaks. This separates the crawl space from the outside - keeping it warm, dry, and clean.

Now the homeowners don't need to depend on heaters in their crawl space to keep it warm (and waste electricity) since the encapsulation gets the job done!

Musty Crawl Space Insulated and Encapsulated in Fort Gratiot, MI

A homeowner in Fort Gratiot, MI was struggling with moisture in the crawl space of their house, built in 1940. They moved into the home in 2022 and learned that the previous owner had a leak that ran into the crawl space. This had gone unattended and developed into a lingering, musty scent throughout the house. It was annoying to deal with and was affecting the dog’s breathing. Not to mention, the floors were extra cold this past winter. The homeowner decided enough was enough and it was time to get the crawl space fixed up. They called HomeSpec Waterproofing and Foundation Repair to discuss options during a free inspection.

One of HomeSpec’s senior project managers, Zach, took a walk-through, or crawl-through of the space and returned to the homeowner to talk. He explained that the best way to keep the home warm, save energy, and prevent moisture would be to insulate using SilverGlo™ and encapsulate with CleanSpace®. The homeowner liked these options and decided to let HomeSpec install the products that would resolve their issue. The crew that led this project was led by foreman Jon. After cleaning up once the job was complete, they left the house in better condition and with a happier homeowner.

Muddy, Stinky Crawl Space Waterproofed in Lexington, MI

Most people don't know much about what goes on in their crawl space. It's a small, dark place that no one wants to venture into. But when awful smells start wafting up from the crawl space and into your home, it's quite alarming. These homeowners in Lexington, Michigan experienced just that.

Because they live near water, their crawl space was very wet and muddy. They had a makeshift "vapor barrier" in place which was actually just some tarps on the ground/walls that were only making the problem worse. With the water and humidity, mold began to grow. This created a foul stench that could be smelled throughout the entire home. Mold comes with many other health concerns, so the homeowners wanted the problem properly taken care of - so they called HomeSpec.

Most importantly, the mold needed to be removed so we used our Mold-X2 to clean the contaminated surfaces. The crawl space had obvious water issues, but encapsulation alone would not be enough. The crawl space needed a waterproofing system as well - a perimeter drainage system connected to a powerful sump pump. This would control the ground water and funnel it away from the home, preventing a flood.

Then the walls and muddy ground needed to be sealed with a CleanSpace encapsulation system. The vapor barrier blocks water vapor from entering the crawl space and paired with a dehumidifier that controls the humidity in the air, also prevents mold growth and musty smells from occurring. This system includes vent covers to prevent cold air from entering in the winter (and drifting up into the home) and to prevent hot, humid air from entering in the summer (and bringing in moisture).
