Installing An Interior Waterproofing System With A Gravity Discharge - Holmes, NY

These homeowners contacted Basement Systems Of New York because they had extensive water damage from the last few storms. When it would rain water would easily penetrate their egress window. During Hurricane Ida, water poured in through the window sill and puddled on the floor. Because of this issue, they knew it was time to call in the experts to take care of the issue and protect their newly renovated basement.

To take care of the issue we had to come up with a unique solution to fix the problem. First, we had to identify the problems. The reason why their window well had such an issue with water penetrating it was that the only protection it had when the home was built was four by fours stacked on top of each other. The issue with this is that there are a lot of seams that water can leak through. The second issue that we identified during our consult was that when the home was built in 2000 they did not install any drains.

To fix the issue at hand and to protect their basement we attacked the issue with a two-pronged approach. First, get rid of the old four-by-four window well and install our StackWell window well, this will stop any water from coming in through the window. Second, we needed to address that there were no drains installed. To fix this issue we installed two different types of drains. This system was composed of our patented interior perimeter WaterGuard waterproofing system, along with our TripleSafe Sump Pump system and a gravity discharge.

This system will guarantee that water will not penetrate the home again via hydrostatic pressure. If our gravity discharge ever becomes overwhelmed, plugged up, or fails our patented interior system will take over and keep water out of their home.

How We Protected a Flooded Basement from Heavy Storms with Expert Waterproofing Solutions - Wingdale, NY

Last season brought a series of heavy storms that left many homeowners dealing with unexpected challenges. For one family, the relentless rain led to water seeping into their basement, creating pools of water along the foundation walls. Not only was their storage space compromised, but there were also concerns about long-term damage to the foundation and potential mold growth. They reached out to us, looking for a solution to keep their basement dry, prevent future flooding, and regain peace of mind.

After our initial inspection, we identified the critical areas of concern. The water infiltration was particularly severe near where egress windows were to be installed, and the existing drainage was insufficient to handle the heavy runoff. We put together a comprehensive plan to address these issues, focusing on both exterior and interior waterproofing solutions.

Our Approach to Fixing the Issue

Exterior Waterproofing Full Wall Height: We began by excavating the side of the foundation near the planned egress windows. Digging down to the footing, we installed a new footing drain system surrounded by clean stone to direct water away from the foundation. Next, we applied a GMX waterproofing membrane to seal the foundation wall and installed a drain mat over the membrane for added protection. This layer effectively channels any moisture down to the new drain system. After completing the waterproofing, we backfilled the area, leaving it at a rough grade. While we don't handle final lawn repairs, this step ensured the foundation was secure and ready for the next phase.

Gravity Line with Exterior Dig Up: To further enhance the drainage around the property, we installed a gravity line that would channel water away from the home. This line, installed in the exterior dig, provided an effective pathway for water to escape, reducing pressure on the foundation and keeping the basement dry.

FlowGuard Sub-Floor Drainage System: Inside the basement, we installed our FlowGuard sub-floor drainage system. This system captures any water seeping through the basement floor or walls and redirects it to the sump pump system, keeping the interior dry and preventing standing water.

Dual Pump Air-Tight Liner System: For reliable water removal, we installed a dual pump system with an air-tight liner. This included a 1/3 HP Zoeller pump and a backup 1/2 HP Zoeller pump for added security. The pumps, installed with clean pump stands, work together to handle heavy water flow and ensure continuous operation during extreme weather. We included a 25-foot discharge line to direct water away from the home’s foundation, along with IceGuards to prevent freezing during colder months. The homeowners were responsible for arranging the electric hook-up to power the system.

SunHouse Basement Window Enclosures: We also installed a SunHouse window enclosure with a cover to protect the new egress window area from rain and debris. While the enclosure alone doesn't prevent window leakage, it creates a barrier that reduces the amount of water reaching the window.

Egress Stackwell Installation: Finally, we installed a new Egress Stackwell to allow for a safe exit from the basement while providing a clean and protected space for the new window. This addition not only improved safety but also enhanced the overall appearance of the exterior space.

After implementing these solutions, the homeowners could rest easy knowing their basement was well-protected against future storms. The combination of exterior waterproofing, drainage systems, and a dual-pump solution ensured that water was directed away from the home and properly managed, even in the heaviest downpours. They now have a dry, usable space that can safely weather whatever nature brings next. The family is thrilled with the results, and we’re glad to have provided a lasting solution to their water woes.

Discharge Line through a Driveway

Our team was tasked with getting this discharge line out of the home after a complete waterproofing system was put in place. The best path for the discharge line was through the driveway. Our crew installed the discharge and put everything back together better than new, and now they have a dry basement. This is not a before and after but it is a durring and after, Great work team!!

Rock Ledge Crawlspace with CleanSpace

Our team installed CleanSpace overtop of the rock ledge to allow the water to flow into our french drain waterproofing system. By installing CleanSpace the dampness of the customers crawlspace was fixed. The CleanSpace also helps reflect light and makes the room much brighter.
