Ice Buildup & Trip Hazard Caused by Sinking Concrete in Toronto, Ontario

When winter hits in Toronto, even small concrete issues can quickly turn into slippery, hazardous conditions around the home. In this case, a homeowner was dealing with repeated ice buildup along the edge of their patio near the foundation, creating a dangerous walking surface throughout the colder months. The issue stemmed from a patio that had slowly sunk over time, forming low spots where meltwater would collect, freeze, and continually reform into ice.

As the problem progressed, the standing water began to sit closer to the home’s foundation, raising additional concerns about drainage and long-term moisture exposure. The underlying cause was traced back to poorly compacted soil beneath the slab during installation, which allowed voids to develop and the concrete to settle unevenly over time.

To address the issue permanently, the homeowner contacted Canadian Concrete Leveling for a professional assessment and repair plan. After inspection, the team recommended lifting and stabilizing the slab using the PolyLevel® polyurethane foam injection system.

Small, minimally invasive holes were drilled through the concrete, and high-density structural foam was injected beneath the patio. As the material expanded, it filled the voids below, stabilized the loose soil, and gently lifted the slab back toward its original level. This restored proper slope and drainage away from the home, eliminating the low areas where water had been collecting and freezing.

Once completed, the patio was level, stable, and no longer prone to ice buildup along the foundation. The homeowner was relieved to have a safer, more reliable outdoor space for winter conditions and appreciated how quickly and cleanly the issue was resolved without the need for full replacement.

Void Causes Garage Floor to Sink in Etobicoke, Ontario

Garages have many uses, and they vary from person to person. Some use them for storage, while others go the more traditional route and keep their cars tucked away overnight. Regardless of their use, they typically deal with a lot of weight.

A customer in Etobicoke, Ontario, was dealing with a sinking garage floor. A void had formed beneath the concrete, and the weight of constant use was taking its toll. Concerned about having to redo the garage floor, the customer reached out to Canadian Concrete Leveling and met with Project Manager Joe McColl.

The homeowner was thrilled to hear from Joe that he wouldn’t need to excavate his garage floor. Instead, Joe showed him our PolyLevel® system and a date was set for a repair.

Foreman Kyle McKeown drilled dime-sized holes and injected our high-density polyurethane to lift the concrete walkway back to grade. Once the slabs were level, our NexusPro® Sealant was installed over any cracks and seams.

The homeowner is very happy with the way his driveway floor looks. He’s thrilled he didn’t have to excavate and is looking forward to many years of use.
