A homeowner in Salem, Massachusetts, had lived in their late 1800s home for the past 50 years. In the last 15 years, the homeowner had noticed the floors on the second floor of the home begin to settle. Over the past 2 years, the issue has gotten worse. The homeowner wanted to find a permanent repair for the issue so they decided to call EFS for a free inspection. Our Design Specialist recommended installing SmartJacks and a Supplemental Beam into the basement. 

A homeowner in Salem, MA noticed sinking and sagging floors in his home. Looking to permanently stabilize the floors and provide support to the home, he reached out to Erickson Foundation Solutions.

Our Design Specialist, Kenneth Calabrese, recommended installing SmartJacks in the basement. These SmartJacks are similar to Lally columns, while offering more support and providing permanent stability. Typically, these SmartJacks are cemented into the foundation. Since the basement floor was composed of pebbles, the SmartJack steel plates were buried in them. This allows for the SmartJacks to be cemented into the foundation if/when the homeowner has a concrete slab poured.

With the installation of these 5 SmartJacks, the floors are now stabilized and level.

A homeowner in Alton, New Hampshire, wanted to have their basement supports looked at. The homeowners called EFS for a free inspection. This homeowner in West Newbury, Massachusetts had a fieldstone foundation that is starting to bulge in one corner. Design Specialist John Merna inspected the fieldstone foundation and proposed that Erickson Crew install an auxiliary wall to the foundation to stop the bulging and reinforce that area. Crew Lead Jon Provost and his crew installed the auxiliary wall and were able to secure the fieldstone foundation.
