A homeowner from Rochester, MN, was doing laundry one evening when he noticed a large crack running lengthwise on his foundation wall. During one of his annual maintenance appointments our Senior Service Technician, Ben McKee, noticed his garage floor was uneven, and he feared the problem was only going to get worse. Then, they installed heavy-duty steel brackets below the footing of the foundation. Next, rugged, interlocking steel pier sections are hydraulically driven through the bracket until bedrock or stable soil is reached. The weight of the home is then transferred through the piers to load-bearing soil. Lastly, the crew installed our SentrySeal membrane to seal off any cracks and prevent water from entering the basement. They replaced the soil and cleaned up their work area. Nathan is glad he chose to invest in the stability of his home, and we are glad we could restore his peace of mind!

After a thorough inspection, Brad met with the homeowner to discuss next steps and his recommendations. Brad informed the homeowner that American Waterworks could effectively reverse the problem with the help of our helical piers. Brad explained that the helical pier owes its name to the helical plates welded to the pier shaft. These plates help to pull the pier into the soil during installation and provide anchoring strength as the weight of the foundation or structural element is transferred to the pier. These piers are mechanically advanced into the soil using small construction equipment or hand equipment. As they are installed to appropriate depths and capacities, they prevent any future settlement issues. In many scenarios, these piers will be able to lift your home back to level position by the completion of the installation. The homeowner liked the sound of Brad's plan, and the work was scheduled for several weeks later. 

On the day of the project, our Foreman, Matt Z, and his team installed 4 of our helical piers in no time. Now our customer can continue to enjoy his porch for years to come!
